2. History of Phuoc An Hoi Quan Pagoda

The history of Phuoc An Hoi Quan Pagoda (also known as Minh Huong Pagoda or Ong Quan De Pagoda) dates back to 1865. Originally, it was a modest shrine named “An Hoa Miếu,” nestled amidst a wild and desolate landscape.

According to local legend, in the late 19th century, Mr. Quach Lai Kim, a Fujian native, often came here to pray for divine blessings while starting his business. After achieving great success and prosperity, he joined 20 other merchants to donate funds for the complete reconstruction of the shrine. Once rebuilt, Phuoc An Hoi Quan Pagoda became the common assembly hall for the seven administrative districts of the Minh Huong community, earning it the famous name “Minh Huong That Phu.”

In recognition of its historical and cultural significance, the Ho Chi Minh City People’s Committee officially designated Phuoc An Hoi Quan Pagoda as a City-level Architectural and Artistic Monument on April 27, 2009.
